Tackling extremism head on

We’re standing up to extremists.

British values such as democracy, free speech and respect for minorities unite us.

They ensure that every person living in our country is free to lead their life as they choose. But you have to respect other people’s rights to do so too – we have responsibilities as well as rights.

So when extremists reject these values, we will tackle them head on.

We’re building a new partnership of everyone who wants to defeat extremism. It will include:

  • New powers to ban groups and tackle extremists – stopping them spreading their message
  • Making sure people who apply for British citizenship respect our values
  • More help for people to learn English, with less funding for translation and more for language training

Our values are superior to anything the extremists offer. By proudly promoting British values, we’ll defeat extremism – and secure a better future for our country.
